Our Sisters attended the Launch of Catholic Sisters, Conflict and Peace in Northern Ireland 1968–2008
A number of our sisters, together with members of other Congregation were delighted to attend the recent launch of Catholic Sisters, Conflict and Peace in Northern Ireland 1968–2008 by Dr Briege Rafferty.
The book is an in-depth study of the lives and work of Catholic sisters in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. It covers four decades, from the outbreak of conflict in 1968 through to the era of peace. In that time, sisters lived and ministered in communities marked by violence, fear and loss, and later took part in the long work of reconciliation and rebuilding.
Several of our sisters contributed to Dr Rafferty’s research by sharing their personal stories and experiences. Their accounts form part of a wider record of women religious who stayed close to the people they served through some of the most difficult years in the North’s history.
The launch was a moving occasion. It brought together people who lived through those years and others who wish to understand them. The book ensures that the quiet, often unseen witness of Catholic sisters during the conflict is remembered and valued.
We thank Dr Rafferty for this publication.

Prayer for the Season of Creation.
SEASON OF CREATION 2026 PRAYER
Living Water Holy God, whose Spirit hovered over the waters at the beginning, we gather as part of your community of all creation, thirsty for your grace. We give thanks for the gift of water, the veins of our common home, that sustains the cedar and the whale, the pasture and the city.
We are grateful for the local waters that nourish our homelands and our fellow creatures. We give thanks that in your well-watered garden, every drop is a sacred testament to your love. Yet, we confess that we have treated this gift as a mere commodity. We have choked the seas with our waste and watched the warming tides rise in judgment. We lament the cracked earth of the drought-stricken and the salty tears of the climate refugee. Melt our frozen hearts, O God, and let the waters of repentance flow.
Lord of all Life,
you promised that wherever the river flows, everything shall live. Stir in us a calling to care for the waters — to protect the watershed, defend the rights of water, and honor the dignity of the thirsty. May your Word be a spring within us, gushing forth for the healing of the nations. May God our Father who brought water from the rock sustain us in the desert. May Christ our Lord who is Living Water refresh us for the work of
restoration. And may the Holy Spirit carry us on currents of grace until justice rolls down like
waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

International Youth Day
12th August marks International Youth Day. This year, the theme for this day is Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships.
Dominican Sisters in the Moreno area of Greater Buenos Aires in Argentina are supporting local young people to reach university education.
‘Together, Paving the Way’ (JAC – Juntos Abriendo Caminos) is a project run by the community of Dominican Sisters in Moreno, which supports and guides young people in the area to help them succeed in their university studies. This includes providing a study space, as well as moral, practical, spiritual and technological support. The Sisters are tackling the issue of inclusion with a person-centred approach, whilst defending the right to free, high-quality public education.
