The above plaque was unveiled in the Seven Steps Academy for the Deaf, in Cape Town,  in December 2022
Sr Macrina trained in Dublin and with Sr Nicholas Griffeys’ assistance and encouragement, became involved in developing a school, where profoundly deaf learners were educated through an aural/oral system, enabling them to fit into society and acquire positions in the business world.  She was a fore-runner using this method in Dominican Grimley and the school continued throughout her life to be the only school in S A where oralism was taught. Her dedication to this normal method of speech was untiring.
She was held in high esteem by all Educators in the country and rightly deserves this honour.
