REFLECTION FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK 6:30-34

“Come away by yourselves to a desert place and rest a while” (Mk 6:31).

This invitation of Jesus to go to a desert place is to help his missionary disciples to take the time they need after the arduous task of the mission.

“…let us go to a desert place to rest…” as missionary disciples they are invited to take time to reflect on what they have done and what they have experienced personally and as a community.

Today, each one of us also needs to take time to be alone with Jesus, to feel his presence and to rest in him.

To be close to Jesus in order to regain strength, is why it is important to take time within the very limits of each one of us, conscious of the need to stop in the face of a world that demands our human existence at every moment.

We need limits that heal in order to continue walking, limits that protect us at every step and encourage us in the mission of all times and situations that arise in the community, personally, at work, in the world that surrounds us with so many fragilities and vulnerabilities.

Jesus Himself gives us the example, He Himself knows the tiredness that the mission implies. In many occasions we see in the gospels that Jesus withdrew to a place alone to rest, to take distance and strength on the way of the mission of announcing the Kingdom.

This rest is not separate from prayer, solitude and silence. It also involves teaching the disciples about the Kingdom of God.

Our challenge as Dominican Sisters is to live the styles of prayer that St. Dominic bequeathed to us, it is personal time, it is daily practice for our dedication to the mission of these times?

“He felt compassion for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd” (Mk 6:34).

The compassion and mercy of Jesus in front of this crowd that followed him is availability. In front of the people, it is meeting their deepest needs, – the need to hear the good news in difficult times, the need for God. Jesus attends to them there and begins to teach them many things.

Today many people do not only need material things such as food, shelter, dignified work, which is important, and dignity, but they also need God, a God who is father and mother, a God who is creator and present in our history of salvation yesterday, today and always.

As Dominican Sisters our challenge is always to speak of God at all times in the style of our Holy Father Dominic, to speak to God about people and to speak to people about God.

TO PREACH AT ALL TIMES THE GOOD NEWS, THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS AND THE PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM, WHICH IS ALREADY HERE AMONG US, IN THE COMMUNITIES….
