Scripture Scholars tell us that the Our Father and the Beatitudes are the closest sayings of Jesus.  They lay out the core teachings of Jesus.  In the Our Father, Jesus reminds us to praise God’s name at all times, to fulfil God’s dream of a Kingdom of love and peace for each one of us, so that we may make the world a better place for all to live a happier and peaceful life of equality, justice and love. Our world at present portrays the opposite.

Forgiveness we ask for daily as we forgive others.  Firstly I must forgive myself which is a humbling learning as only then can I forgive others.  To the degree I forgive myself is how I forgive others. Failure to forgive myself is failure to forgive others. The heart of Jesus’ message is forgiveness.  It is a decision and I have free will so choose well and be free.

The one who asks will always receive.  If we search we will find. When we knock the door will be opened and Jesus will be with us forever.  Remember the Magi who sought Jesus and found God.  We are asked today to do the same and all we need do is persevere as Abraham did, politely in the first reading, pleading and bargaining with God to save the unjust in the early world.  We need to knock and persevere until we get a better and more equitable society who reach out to the starving, needy, homeless and poverty-stricken people, all neighbours of ours throughout the world. God needs you and me to ask, seek and knock daily for God’s will to be done on Earth as in heaven.

Psalm 137 shows us how to respond with thankfulness in the Responsorial Psalm for everything which is GIFT, freely given daily so thank you God for forgiving me when I fail to respond to your great love.

Question:  Do I forgive myself ever?

Pregunta: ¿Me perdono alguna vez?
