Reflexión de las lecturas del domingo
by Nancy Robledo, OP
Reflection on the Sunday readings
The Sunday readings have in common the most important commandment “LOVE GOD AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF”. The verse “love yourself” always made me think. I think the key is to start by knowing God, and from that place we can forgive ourselves and at the same time t love our neighbour, accompany our neighbour. Pope Francis says, “The most important is to love God, because He is love; But the second is to love our neighbour, but to reach the first we must climb the steps of the second: that is, through love for our neighbour we come to know God, who is love. Only by loving reasonably, but loving, can we reach this love.”
The gospel is clear about the Love of God and of neighbour, but how do we put it into practice. The invitation is to live it, to practice it. There is a Dominican saint who lived it intensely and profoundly, Saint Martin de Porres, who lived the love of God by loving his neighbour, being attentive to others, attending to the most human and painful needs of his time, and in a special way looking at God in people.
What prevents me from living these two commandments today?
MILAGRO DE AMOR (Jorge Rojas)
Querrán prohibirme que yo crea
en el milagro de tu amor
podrán callar mi voz con guerras
pero jamás mi corazón.
Podrán cerrarme tantas puertas
quitarme la respiración
pondrán en mi camino piedras
pero me salvará tu amor.
Y será tu amor el puerto mas seguro
donde quiero anclar mi corazón
no me vencerán los vientos porque sé
que lo que salvará mi corazón
será tu amor.
Querrán dejarme sin certezas
poniendo en duda lo que soy
pero no habrá jamás quien pueda
hacer que dude de este amor.
Podrán cambiarme las quimeras
por realidades sin color
más no podrán borrar la huella
que fue dejando en mi tu amor.
Y será tu amor el puerto mas seguro
donde quiero anclar mi corazón
no me vencerán los vientos porque sé
que lo que salvará mi corazón
será tu amor.
They will want to forbid me to believe
in the miracle of your love
they can silence my voice with wars
but never my heart.
They will be able to close so many doors
take away my breath
They will put stones in my path
but your love will save me.
And your love will be the safest port
where I want to anchor my heart
I will not be overcome by the winds because I know
that what will save my heart
will be your love.
They will want to leave me without certainties
by questioning what I am
but there will never be anyone who can
make me doubt this love.
They will be able to change my illusions
for colourless realities
But they won’t be able to erase the mark
that your love has left in me.
