THEY TOOK HIM DOWN
They took Him down
from the blood-stained cross
Our many sins He bore.
Salvation came through one man
Which has never happened before.
The dark cruel world lay silent
A clap of thunder erupts For the man called Jesus was crucified
For a sinful world corrupts.
His lifeless body lay cold and bloody
His godhead shines no more
What a dreadful thing He endured
As the chilly rain downpoured.
His kingly head crowned with thorns
The King of kings is dead
How terrible this dreadful thing
Our gift of life, our Bread.
His eyes now lifeless in a dead stare Once burning at sin
His loving eyes beckoning sinners
Inviting them in.
His hands bloodied and pierced with nails
Securing him on the cross
His hands which fed five thousand
Now lifeless with bloodloss.
His feet which walked for miles around Upon the stoney ground
Was pierced with nails upon the cross Leaving us spellbound.
His side pierced with a lance
From which blood and water flowed
His bleeding heart which overflowed with love for humankind once glowed.
They took Him down, this Jesus
A man for sinners slain
Never will He go through
This bloody hell again.
So Joseph of Arimathea took him down from the cross
And laid Him in a tomb
Now the world mourns His loss.
But we thought that was the end
Our dismal hearts grew weak
Three days He layed within the tomb
Our strength lies cold and bleak.
Three days later He appeared to Mary Magdalene
Her joy overwhelmed with gladness
She thought it was a dream.
Our Shepherd has appeared to us
Our hearts grew warm within
The Lord of life is here to stay Our life and resurrection.
