The Dominican Sisters in Ireland

In Ireland, the Dominican Sisters of the Cabra Congregation are based in Dublin, Galway, Wicklow, and Belfast.
Inspired by the Dominican ethos, we work in the area of education to both adults and children. The Congregation runs two centres of formation. The Lumen Dominican Centre in Blackrock, Dublin, is a space of encounter and reflection for adults which seeks to promote dialogue between faith and culture through offering a wide variety of courses. An Tairseach Organic Farm & Ecology Centre in Wicklow town is a calm and tranquil space offering many events and courses, including a ten week sabbatical programme which runs in the Spring and Autumn term. Visit An Tairseach website here.
Some sisters work in primary and secondary schools. Others work on Boards of Management of Pre-Schools, Primary, Secondary and Schools for Pupils with specific needs. While we have transferred the governance and management of our schools to the Le Chéile Schools Trust, we retain trusteeship of three Grammar Schools in Belfast and Portstewart. We are involved in academic research and ecumenical and interfaith dialogue at various levels.
Our Justice Office in Dublin aims to promote justice and equality through education, research, advocacy, and justice campaigns. Click here to read more about our work in Justice.
Sisters are involved in pastoral work in parish and local communities through liturgy, faith sharing, Counselling, Sacramental preparation and work closely with many organisations e.g. St Vincent de Paul. Some Sisters support women and families in Direct Provision and accompany those who have moved out into the community from direct provision. A number of sisters offer pastoral care to those who live in our Nursing Home. Our ministry also extends to chaplaincy, retreat work and prison visits.
