Preparation of JAC for Mission in Bariloche

JAC stands for ‘Juntos abriendo Caminos’ (Together Opening Paths). It is a project to accompany the university career of young people from poor areas in Buenos Aires, who are accompanied in their educational journey by the community of sisters in  Moreno (Sisters Vicky, Patricia and Noemí) and a team of lay professionals who are graduates of the Project and  members of the wider Dominican Family.

During this year they have been preparing to go on mission and share life in the Community of Bariloche from January 25th to February 2nd. They are bringing their desire to serve, their knowledge, joy and energy to be present in the realities of the community of Barrio Nahuel Hue where Sisters Nancy, Ana and Brígida live.  Two of the problems in this neighbourhood are food and housing shortages.

The young people have been holding raffles and food sales for several months to raise money to enable them to travel. They are students of architecture, psychology, cinema, social work, economics and other subjects. Eleven young people are traveling representing the whole group.

January is a month of holidays and a lot of heat, but the families cannot go on a trip because of the marginalised and economically disadvantaged situation they suffer. That is why the young people from JAC are going to work on recreational activities with the children and learn about the resilience of the Mapuche (indigenous) people who live there.

Their guiding motto is Jn. 10:10 ‘I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly’.

We ask for your prayers for this Mission, Noemí Zambrano OP
