On Saturday 8th November 2025, the Lay Dominicans in the Western Cape gathered for a Retreat at Mater Dei Catholic Church Hall in Parow, facilitated by Sr. Columbia Fernandez OP. The theme, DEEPENING OUR DOMINICAN CHARISM, centered on the four pillars of Dominican life: Prayer, Community, Study, and Service. We delved into how these pillars enhance our lives, allowing us to make our preaching ministry more effective through evangelization. We studied the lives of three Dominican saints: St. Dominic, St. Catherine of Siena, and Blessed Jane of Aza (St. Dominic’s mother), and how their virtues can inspire our lives. Through Lectio Divina, we pondered the Gospel of Martha and Mary, which illustrates the Dominican balance of Action and Contemplation. As Dominicans, we must continually seek to listen to His Word and minister to others. We also reflected on the meaning of the Eucharist in Dominican spirituality. The Retreat was a deeply enriching experience. #LayDominicanRetreat #DominicanSpirituality #FourPillars #PrayerCommunityStudyService
