On Saturday 25th July 2026, six Lay Dominican Candidates made their First Profession into the Order of Preachers in Capetown. Sr Columbia Fernandez OP, the Spiritual Promoter for the Lay Dominicans in the Western Cape, stood in the place of the Master of the Order and received their promises.
Two Dominican Brothers, Fr Kelvin and Fr Moses, were present and officiated at Mass.
Although it was the feast of St James, the Apostle the Mass of St Mary Magdalene was celebrated. Mary Magdalene is the Patroness of the Order of Preachers and the first Preacher to witness to the Resurrection of Christ. She is known as the Apostle to the Apostles. It was fitting that we invoked her and relied on her prayers for these six candidates.
After Mass, we had a lovely celebratory lunch.
