We have signed up to the Europe Be Faithful to our Common Home campaign.  This is a call by 33.1 million European citizens to the EU leaders.

Coming on the heels of Europe’s worst-ever recorded heatwaves and revelation that Europe’s six largest oil giants raked in $22 billion in profits in Q1 2026 alone, the “Europe, Be Faithful for Our Common Home” campaign is urging the incoming Irish Presidency to make polluters pay and lead a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Why this is a key story for today:

  • Massive Scale: The coalition brings together a massive cross-section of Europeans, from major networks like Caritas Europa and the Laudato Si’ Movement and Ireland’s own Trócaire and Christian Aid.
  • The Irish Connection: The Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called on the Irish government to use this presidency to reduce EU dependency on fossil fuels.
  • The Core Demands: The coalition is demanding a precise milestoned strategy  to phase out fossil fuels, a permanent windfall profit tax on fossil fuel corporations to fund the transition, and strict climate finance guarantees in the upcoming 7-year EU budget (MFF).

This faith-led intervention injects a profound ethical and moral argument into a Brussels debate usually dominated by technicalities, reminding leaders of Europe’s duty as the historic birthplace of the fossil-fuel economy.
